Bridge Day West Virginia

Once Autumn weather starts to roll around it is time for sweater weather, pumpkin everything, hot apple ciders, and Fall foliage! Everyone is in search of the best Fall colors and autumnal themed events and there are many places across the country to get your seasonal weekend getaway fix. One of those places is West Virginia!

I visited West Virginia for the first time a few weeks ago and it did not disappoint. Before I left for my trip I was so excited to check out what West Virginia had to offer! Typically the fall colors in West Virginia start to peak around late September/early October and the higher elevations typically start to change color first.

Bridge Day Weekend

West Virginia Bridge Day

When I visited West Virginia in mid-October I was lucky enough to be there during Bridge Day weekend. Every third Saturday in October Bridge Day takes place on the New Gorge River Bridge in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Every year thousands of spectators walk across the bridge to watch BASE jumpers as they take a leap (or catapult) down 876 feet as well as rappellers descending from the catwalk beneath the bridge.

This day is such a great opportunity to soak in the Fall views from the bridge with has panoramic views over the New Gorge River. It’s the perfect combination of Fall foliage & adrenaline,  I couldn’t recommend it enough. On both sides of the Bridge, vendors line the street with all the festival food options you can think of – tacos, gyros, pizza, churros, chicken tenders, and the list goes on.

In preparation for the Bridge Day festivities, Adventures on the Gorge hosts the annual Taste of Bridge Day Festival the day before Bridge Day. If you want to get amped for Bridge Day – this is the place to be. Plus, the event brings together the best local food, artwork and live music! All of the vendors are also competing for the best appetizer, entree, dessert, and people’s choice award. So, be sure to check a bunch out and place your vote!

Taste of Bridge Day Sunset

If you are there during sunset, be sure to make it out to one of the viewpoints to watch as the sunset fires up the sky.

 Chili & Craft Beer Festival

Just a short walk away from the Bridge Day festivities, in Historic Downtown Fayetteville, a Chili Cook-Off is going down. The Bridge Day Chili Cook-Off is a great way to unwind & warm up after all the adrenaline of the day. Check out different chilis (mild and hot) from around the region whilst dancing to some great live music. Make sure to check out all the different vendors and cast a vote for your favorite.

Where to Stay

I would recommend renting a vacation rental, there are so many beautiful towns and houses all around Fayetteville. This way you can fully immerse yourself in the town and the Fall foliage.

Fall fireplace

The West Virginia Tourism Board invited me as a guest to experience their autumn wonderland for a fall getaway. As always, opinions and photos are my own.
